The UNITAR Traineeship 2025 gives international students and recent grads a unique way to gain experience at the United Nations. Overview
Between four and six months, UNITAR runs a traineeship through which participants work at its headquarters in Geneva. Practice in handling external communication and using digital media is the focus of this program. As part of their training, students will create social media messages, design flyers and emails, manage the website’s content and support various marketing events. Members of the youth team can improve skills in content creation, graphic design, event planning and working with communities, all guided by the UN’s mission and worldwide mission.
Additional Details
While on the program, trainees will be expected to take on a range of roles important for UNITAR’s work in outreach and communication. They will develop brochures, oversee email campaigns, add new information to the website and film videos and photos for UNITAR (UNITAR’s social media accounts). Trainees are also involved in organizing communication schedules, finding good outreach chances and keeping LinkedIn discussion going. This job asks for creativity, experience with technology and a love for sharing stories and helping the world.
The expectation is for trainees to work with guidance, so they learn about how international communications are conducted. Additionally, this traineeship helps you form professional relationships, experience the UN and grow your work portfolio in an important global agency.
Date
The UNITAR Traineeship 2025 will run for 4 to 6 months, starting in January, March, June or September.* Those hoping to study in the program should be ready to meet the application deadline in early July.
Country
Because Geneva, Switzerland is so well known for diplomacy and international organizations, that is where this traineeship takes place. Geneva connects trainees with a rich multicultural setting and shows them the work of policymakers and those involved in humanitarian causes. Working and living in Geneva allows people to see firsthand the world of international relations.
Funding
Participating students will be given a 900 CHF (964 Euros) monthly allowance. This money is meant to pay for your trainee’s travel and extra living costs. Though trainees receive financial aid, they must be aware that living in Geneva costs more than living in many other cities.

Requirements
Anyone interested in the UNITAR Traineeship 2025 must fulfill the following conditions:
- You must be a student at the time of the award or you must have graduated (within the last two years) from Communication, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Video Production/Editing, Marketing, International Relations or other related fields.
- Show you have skills in word processing, using spreadsheets and working with internet tools.
- Have the ability to communicate and resolve different problems.
- If you’re interested in storytelling and making digital media, that is extremely helpful.
- A background in using Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Trello, Hootsuite, Notion or designing with Canva is greatly appreciated.
