Designed by the parliamentary program to teach participants how parliaments work combined with democratic practice and public policy development while helping them acquire professional competence for political and legal economic or administrative career paths. Through its methodology the program actively works toward improving the youth’s democratic engagement as it develops a well-informed citizenry.

Overview

Under its Strategic Plan (NASP) the National Assembly of Pakistan administers the Parliamentary Internship Program which runs for six weeks. Participating in this highly interactive program provides interns firsthand work opportunities with National Assembly departments so they can better understand legislative operations. The program works to improve both research abilities and legislative analysis together with communication and public policy development skills in young participants.

After joining the program interns must complete an extended training course at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services to understand National Assembly operation and structure. After completing the training participants move into practical duties where they meet parliamentarians as well as officials and policy specialists working in public policy.

Additional Details

The Parliamentary Internship Program accepts ongoing applications because interns request different training periods continuously. Interns participate in research tasks for legislative projects and they attend parliamentary meetings while they draft reports alongside contributing to policy and procedural development. Upon completion of the program those candidates who meet criteria will get their Certification of Completion from the National Assembly Secretariat acknowledging their participation in this esteemed program.

Through this initiative the program works to boost citizen involvement and youth involvement since it includes nationwide youth participation in National Assembly activities. Students together with graduates who come from remote areas as well as marginalized regions receive special consideration within the parliamentary applicant selection process to support systemwide inclusion.
